With Europe more dangerous than at any time since World War II, the United States and its allies are racing to reinforce the security of the region.
Billions in New Military Assistance are now flowing to Ukraine; more than 100,000 U.S. Service Members are now operating in Europe; new Defense Systems and Equipment are being sent to Europe; new U.S. Defense Purchases are being made by the UK, Germany, and other major European Allies; and New Sources of Assured Energy Supply are being sought by U.S. and Allied Military Bases in Europe.
On April 1, the Pentagon notified Congress that DoD will provide $300 million more in security assistance to Ukraine. On April 5, another $100 million in security assistance to Ukraine was announced. These purchases - and future purchases - are being made through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), an authority under which the United States procures capabilities from industry rather than delivering equipment that is drawn down from DoD stocks. Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby has stated, "This announcement represents the beginning of a contracting process to provide new capabilities to Ukraine's Armed Forces."
Businesses should note what the U.S., UK, NATO, and the European Union are buying: Laser-guided rocket systems; Stinger anti-aircraft systems; Javelin anti-armor systems; Switchblade tactical unmanned aerial systems; Puma unmanned aerial systems; small arms; ammunition; body armor and helmets; counter-artillery and counter-unmanned aerial system tracking radars; counter-mortar radar systems; armored high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles; night vision devices; thermal imagery systems; optics; tactical secure communications systems; commercial satellite imagery services; explosive ordnance disposal protective gear; medical supplies; first aid kits; field equipment, and much more.
